How to Prepare for Your Polygraph Examination

Before Your Examination
Get Adequate Rest
Sleep at least 6-8 hours the night before. Being well-rested helps ensure accurate physiological readings.
Eat Normally
Have a regular meal before your appointment. Don't skip meals or overeat. Avoid excessive caffeine.
Take Regular Medications
Continue taking prescribed medications as normal. Don't skip doses. You'll disclose all medications during the pre-test interview.
What to Bring
- Valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, or state ID)
- Any documentation related to your case (if applicable)
- Medical disclosure information (list of medications, conditions)
- Forms provided by the requesting party (employer, attorney, agency)
- Court orders or agency referrals (if applicable)
- Reading glasses if needed
What to Avoid
- Alcohol for 24 hours before the examination
- Excessive caffeine or energy drinks
- Sleep deprivation or staying up late
- Recreational drugs or substances
- Researching 'how to beat' a polygraph (countermeasures are detectable)
What to Expect During Your Examination
Phase 1: Pre-Test Interview (30-45 minutes)
We'll review your background, discuss the examination purpose, explain the polygraph process, review all test questions (no surprises), and complete required paperwork including consent forms and medical disclosures.
Phase 2: The Polygraph Test (30-45 minutes)
Sensors are attached to measure cardiovascular, respiratory, and electrodermal activity. You'll answer the pre-reviewed questions while the computerized system records your physiological responses. The process is painless and non-invasive.
Phase 3: Post-Test Discussion
After analysis, we'll discuss the results with you. Verbal results are typically provided immediately. Written reports are delivered within 24 hours to the authorized requesting party.
Medical Disclosure Information
Certain medical conditions and medications may affect polygraph results. Please disclose the following when scheduling or during your pre-test interview:
- • Cardiovascular conditions (heart disease, pacemaker)
- • Respiratory conditions (severe asthma, COPD)
- • Neurological conditions (epilepsy, seizure disorders)
- • Severe anxiety disorders or panic attacks
- • Current pregnancy (especially third trimester)
